Myth or Reality?
The Legend of Aruba Red

No one knows where she came from, but over 200 years ago she appeared, leading a pack of pirates throughout the Caribbean. Named “Aruba Red” for her fiery red hair, she would slip aboard ships at sea in the dark of night, scouting for treasure. At sunrise, her pirate band would board the ship and make off with its valuables.

One moonlit night, she climbed aboard a ship and encountered a handsome young brewer guarding kegs of a uniquely crafted beer—the best concoction she’d ever tasted. Her eyes flashed in the moonlight, her scarlet tresses a radiant halo around her head, and in a moment, his heart was hers. To profess his undying love for her, the brewer scribbled the beer recipe on a scrap of canvas torn from the mainsail.

Touched by this gesture, Aruba Red folded the cloth into a locket she wore on her neck. When dawn broke, she knew the only thing she cared to take from the ship was the young brewer himself with whom she had fallen in love.

As a farewell to her pirate crew, the couple stacked the kegs of beer on the deck. Aruba Red penned a quick message telling the pirates to take the beer, but that there was nothing else aboard worth taking. The brewer then helped Aruba Red into her rowboat and they headed for land, never to be seen again.

Two centuries later, a vacationer snorkeling in the islands glimpsed a shiny object on the ocean floor, a golden locket engraved with the name ARUBA RED. A brewmaster himself, he recognized at once the uniqueness of the ingredients listed on the recipe inside the locket, so he made it his quest to recreate this sunset-red brew. It is this tantalizing beer that you can now savor exclusively at Bahama Breeze. Brewed exclusively for Bahama Breeze by the Specialty Brewing Group of Anheuser-Busch.
