Bruce Smith's life is as colorful as his art. He spent years in the Caribbean sketching and painting local culture aboard a small, engineless boat. He sailed up and down the chain of islands capturing his favorite subjects: wood boat building, old rum shops, steel bands in action and the last Bedford buses.
Bruce moved to Washington State where he built a wooden gaff ketch. He and his family ventured off, sailing hard, for seven years on several oceans. They returned to their favorite sailing ground, the Eastern Caribbean, where Bruce began showing painting in galleries.
For the past decade Bruce has painted for Bahama Breeze and sailed Puget Sound in Washington. The boat is being readied for another ocean cruise that will hopefully take the Smith family back to the places and people that are the inspiration for his vibrant art.
